This has already been mentioned in another thread.
For me, it's too late, I have the Cyberpower, but I think I'd have gone for that anyhow. So I guess I'd recommend the Cyberpower.
It looks like Gratis is testing demand by adding the laptop to their established site, but I can't be the only fdpc veteran who's pissed they can't try for a Gratis laptop.

I'm very pissed. I completed fdpc in August when the site first launched and was in the first batch and now I wish I could get a laptop because I realy want one.

Exactly.
Too bad Gratis can't let us signup again, provided we just wanted that.
It's like filling up on the sweet & sour chicken at a chinese buffet, just before they put out the General Tso's.
I hate when that happens...

are u able to change the product while u are searching for referrals, or is it too late?

You're still allowed. Click on "Complete offer" and select the product you want from the drop-down menu. If I remember correclty, Gratis makes you choose your product AGAIN when you request your gift, just to make sure they send you what you really want. The only time you can't change the product is when your order is "Processing" and so on.

You can change it when it's processing by pressing the "cancel" button, the only time you can't cancel it is when it's STV or shipped.

No it doesn't, probably around $500-$600. Who cares if it doesn't come with a monitor? If you're ona compputer right now then you have one D
Yeah, I started on this yesterday. So far I have about 3 referals. We'll see how long it takes until I run out of people and have to start trading...

Isn't the laptop just a celeron though?
Tholek

Yeah, it's no gaming laptop, but I could still get plenty done with it.

How do celeron Laptops compare to Desktops? I'm assuming they're similar in performance.
I have forwarded your concerns about a unique laptop site to my superiors and they will take it into consideration.
I personally think that they should start a unique laptop site for the users who have already completed desktoppcs to be able to take advantage of.
We'll see what they have to say.

Considering this is a mobile version, it probably scores higher than desktop Celerons.
But no Celeron is gonna top a Pentium of the same speed.

They totally need a laptop site, they'd profit tremendously from it so I don't see what's holding them back. I love you Jake.

Wow, wish I had waited the extra 3 months. Actually, I did wait awhile hoping for new systems, but it never happened. When Gratis' websites went down a few times a few months ago, I became scared that Gratis might be in financial trouble, so I just placed the order as soon as possible. Oh well. Computers are always getting faster/cheaper, so the change is not that much of a shock. As mentioned, the Cyberpower looks to be a socket 939 system and now includes a decent entry-level video PCI-e card.
That Dell being offered is also a new model. This model is one of those new BTX systems and includes a 64-bit cpu. On freedesktoppc's site, it mentions only bundling only a 40GB and a cd-rom, but Dell's configuration page lists a 80GB and a dvd-rom as a minimum. Maybe those ordering a Dell will be lucky and get the better specs?
Tholek
17-08-2005 16:13:28
Doubtful.
Dell has their site set up with sections for business customers, and home users, and the minimums are sometimes different.
Dell had offered free monitor upgrades on their base versions of the previous fdpc Dell, but that was for home users.
Gratis is a business, and they will fill their bulk orders to the buyers specifications, so if it says 40GB and CD-Rom, then that's what you'll likely get.
COOL laptop.. gratis is the BEST!!! wish i could do it..((
