I've been waiting patiently and reading this forum for the last several months. Today, I finally decided to call Federal Express and find out if perhaps an Ipod was coming my way.... I talked to the friendliest customer service rep in the world, and she said "yes, we're very familiar with that promotion and have been seeing thousands of Ipod packages coming through the system in the last week." She then told me that she could run a generic search for me, but didn't find an ipod heading my way. BUT, she said, that does not nearly mean that there is not one on its way. She said that the FedEx system is currently split and not accurately revealing packages by the generic search. She then said she would contact the international department and see what she could do. After holding for about 20 seconds, she came back and said that she had some good news --- she said that due to the extraordinary size of this promotion, federal express has opened a special department to deal with the FreeIpod service. She connected me to them and gave me the direct line. Sadly, the next rep wasn't as helpful, but did say that several hundred new packages from Shanghai have been registered today for transit to the United States. The number is 1-800-455-4588.

Let's see if that doesn't make us feel a bit better! roll

So do I just call, and ask if there's a package coming to my address?

wow, are they helpful? or just blow you off and say nothing..

That's what i did. The rep at the Ipod Dept. whom I spoke with wasn't very helpful and didn't run a search for me w/o the tracking number. She said that from what she understood, many people on the website are "SENT TO VENDOR" or " SHIPPED " but do not have a tracking number. From a Fedex standpoint this means that apple is processing the shipment. She said to call Apple in this case.

But, I'm sure if one were to talk to another rep, the helpfulness level might be greater.

Either way, I'm pleased with FedEx and the way they are handling this professionally.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this story on the news rather soon.... Hehe - particularly since I work for a television news organization!

I just hope we all are in luck and have something to celebrate.

Yeah I probably talked to the same woman, she didn't help me at all, if I had a tracking number then there would be no reason for calling FedEx in the first place...

Speaking of gratis internet, fedex, etc.... They are based here in Washington DC.... In fact I'm about 5 blocks from them at this point. Perhaps I will stop by and make a visit later.... Maybe even park a satellite truck at the curb of their building and see if we can't expedite this question/answer session.... ;-)

kidding, but certainly an option.

Ipod Update

Just spoke with another person at Fedex who said a cargo plane carrying mostly packages from Apple Computers in Shanghai CN is enroute to the US and a second plane will be flying tomorrow.

Of course i'm sure "real" apple orders are included, but it gives me hope.

of course they are accurate. It gives you an update on where the package is and at what time. Maybe it will arrive a Day early but other than that, expect it on the day they say it will be at your house

I got it two days earlier than it said, but I think a lot of the orders go through Indianapolis, IN and since I'm not too far away from that station (i.e. an hour or two), I received mine earlier.

So do the items on the plane not have manifests yet? There is a 20gb ipod on the plane going to my zipcode. However, I called FedEx, and they said they don't have a manifest for the tracking number yet. What I don't get is it is in the FedEx computer, and says picked up @ 839pm and also future delivery.

Does this mean they loaded up thep plane with basic info (zipcodes) and will then sort them when the plane lands or whatever?

lots of people are around long enough to get their ipod and brag about it....after that it's like "Fuck ya, FreeIpodGuide people!"

Waiting on a "$300 free thing" is like waiting on HIV test results in this fucked up economy....crucial.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Once you have the guy's name and everything, how do you plan on stealing his ipod exactly? I mean if you're just gonna beat the shit out of someone to take his ipod away 1) you're retarded (sorry but other words fail me) 2) why mess with tracking numbers, anywho.com or whatever else? Just walk 5 min. in NYC or LA and jump on the first guy with white headphones....

it may not be the "ipod" department; but when i asked about the ipod promotion, the overly helpful and kind woman at fedex said, "let me transfer you to the department that fedex has invoked to deal with the gratis ipod promotions." either way, symantics aside, they're very knowledgeable and helpful on the fip promo.

hope everyone's waiting is going well... we'll all get our ipods, sooner than later i'm sure. lots of forward progress in the last days!
