the iPods we are getting are 4th gen right?

im trying to find some accessories like a car dock and a desktop dock. Does the 4th gen iPod/HpiPod have the 30 pin connector?

This is the 4g, but as far as I know all the 3g accessories work without problems.

yeah i just saw that. 40 bucks though, so if i bought that, i could really just spend 30 more dollars and get the 40 gig ipod that comes with the dock anyway (student discount too)

40GB pod comes with the 20GB accessories + dock. You can buy the dock off ebay for ~$25 or you can buy a generic dock for ~$25. All the cool stuff they used to include...case, remote, etc...doesn't come with either anymore. (

Each accessory is $40...dock, case, remote...I believe the car charger with audio out is $35 from Belkin.

I wouldn't recommend buying the Apple case...get an iSkin or, if you want to use the dock, a Jam Jacket (folds up to place in the dock). The official Apple iPod case is just nylon and plastic and NOT worth $40. The remote's alright but I thought the buttons were a little annoying.

The dock is definitely nice, though - I'm putting it at the top of my Christmas list for the parents. )

Yeah, I'm disappointed about this. Apple was bragging about how they cut prices (the 20GB used to be $400 back in the 2G days, I think) when they took out all the cool accessories that made the iPod worth the money. I believe someone did all the math out, and overall, if you were to buy all the accessories that came with previous generations in addition to a 4G, you would save only $2 over previous generations.

Yeah I was going to return the HPod and get a 40GB but I realized I'd still be spending around $80 in accessories (i really want the charger and case and would like the remote)...so $180 is about how much i'd be paying for the 20GB in the first place. Screw that. I'll get all the stuff eventually - I'm sure I can convince the grandparents to buy me some of the other accessories.

yeah i'm probably gonna just get the 40 gig anyway. i'm most definately gonna want a nice dock, and a 40 gig small ass portable hard drive is priceless to me

you can charge via USB 2.0. I think you have to do the Eject option in windows on the drive, but i'm not sure.

I just thought about this and I think its what I'm gonna do. Once I get my iPOD, I'm going to return it. But then instead of exchaning for the 40GB like everyone is talking about, I'm just going to buy the 20GB from apple and get the student discount. That way, I just got a free ipod plus money in my pocket! Can't get better than that
