I'm in college at a big public university, so I took my laptop with me to school and went to a conf. room where a bunch of students hang out between classes...got on the wireless network and started getting people to sign up right then and there.
It would appear that although multiple signups were on the same IP address, everyone used very different names, addresses, and emails, all of which were legitimate, so I got all my referrals within 24 hours after I signed up, and I was confirmed at 700 that night to order my iPod!

Seems like IP would be fairly key... I mean its easy to use a fake name and your neighbors address... or mom and dads... But an IP lots of people dont know how to fake...

I ended up with 8 referrals. A little too much ;)
Some were friends, others were people who clicked in my AIM profile or did it for "leet" AIM screen names (i.e. 3 characters, dictionary names, etc.)

i paid like six bucks to advertise on PTR sites, the ones where advertisers send you email and you get a few pennies for each email. I advertised to about 19,000 people, got almost 8000 hits, had about 60 people sign up, and eventually got 5 completes in less than a week.]
Only disadvantage is that lots of people are either only in the PTR for the money so they don't read the emails, or else they're living in 3rd world countries or poorer countries than the US (probably half my signups were email domains outside the US). Also, once you advertise it, any repeat advertising for it will be crap, so you have to look carefully.

I got 1 from a conga line, 4 from friends, and one in a manner I'm not allowed ot say here. (I don't consider it cheating, but about a month back when I said something about it in the IRC channel I got in trouble so...)

For the iPod, I just kept the link in my signature on the forums I post on. It only took 3 days to get 5 completed referrals.
For the TV, I just had friends sign up. I had 6 in a couple days, then eBay was removed and it took a few weeks to get just 2 referrals.
I never paid anyone and laugh at those who do. I won't bother trying to get the PC, since it's too hard to get 10 non-eBay referrals. Besides, I'm saving to get an Alienware ALX anyway.

So, yeah, just FYI for anyone who didn't believe me, I really did get all my referrals within 24 hours after I created a freeipods.com account, and no my account was never questioned or put on hold. Out my five referrals two were on the same IP address because they both used my laptop computer, but both had valid emails and addresses and CC#s so it was not a problem. It took about three hours to go from processing to confirmed (order placed), and I went to IP3 the next day around 130 IN-EST.
Just wanted to clarify. In other words, plz don't start IMing me constantly asking me if I "really did get that many that quick" etc etc, because I'm just going to start blocking everyone who tries that BS. If you really have questions that you think Flatline et al can't answer, either hit up the IRC chat on the freeipodguide.com site or PM me. Thanks.

My suggestion to getting referals is when you are posting on forums, stick with the thread. Just dont leave your one post and hope you get a green out of it. And be nice about it. If people are like "OMG SPAMMER!!11!!!1!one!!1", then just be like "I apoligize for the inconvience, please delete the post". And if they say its a scam, reply with reasons whys its not. And dont go to forums that have alot to do with computers. Chances are, these people spend alot of time on the computer and have already heard about freeipods.com and dismissed it as a scam. Try like scuba diving forums or something. D

Html is so easy. I taught myself the basics in one night. CSS is a little more complicated, and PHP is way beyond my abilities, but HTML..find a good tutorial and take a few hours and you'll have it down.
Get a prog like CoffeeCup HTML to help you out.

If you really want to try and make decent webpages, DON'T use frontpage. It uses a lot of extensions and shit that aren't supported by browsers other than IE. Dreamweaver is powerful, but its wizards and stuff make it really easy to make really shitty webpages. If you care about learning, learn how to do your own HTML with a text editor (or a program like CoffeeCup, which color-codes the HTML to make it easier to find mistakes etc) first, and when you're comfortable with the various tags and tables and frames and the like, you can use Dreamweaver to make it easier to make multiple pages.
But, yeah. Straight HTML first.

I taught myself HTML ~6 years ago when I was 11. I still have the site I made (sweet jesus it is horrible). Point being, I did it by doing view->source on every page I visited until I figured out how it all worked. Tutorials never seemed to do it for me. These days I'm comfortable with several programming languages including PHP. I recommend a language other than PHP for beginners, such as Liberty Basic.

Yeah, once I got the super basic tags down, like text formatting and stuff, I did a LOT of CTRL-F'ing in source code to find out how to do stuff...I even dowloaded stylesheets from different sites so I could learn that part.
I still can't do CSS containers that are all browser compatible and stuff. I just never found the time.

about the html/site building stuff, I suggest trying out a program like 1st Page 2000 (it's freeware). I used that program a lot back in the day when I was getting my feet wet in website design. Before, I was very "basic" with html and that program taught me new things. And it's nothing like Frontpage or thsoe WYSIWYG programs like at Geocities or Homestead.
Good learning tool.

The trick to getting your site to work in every browser is to first make it work in a standards compliant browser (ie not IE) and after it works there, see it in IE and just use the IE hacks to work around the problems. codingforums.com (or .neturl==http://=http:///url) is very good for html/css and they will help with the hacks if you need.
I started from html, moved on to C and VB and then just C, C++, PHP and Python, now I change between Python and PHP for making sites. I love Python a lot more but PHP is just supported by every web host in existence so I sort of have to use it..
I recommend doing html then css, if you're comfortable with that you can try Javascript or just move on to PHP.. start slow though, don't have high goals like "my first project is going to be.. a forum!" or something huge like that.

i seeded a few cd's via bit torrent, and included a readme in the folder giving some info on freeipods.com and my referral link at the end. it took about a week for 5 people to complete offers, but i ended up getting around 300 sign-ups.
