So I have been doing the fed ex reference track for a few weeks now and a while ago I noticed someone in my zip code received an ipod-FedEx.com said it's delivered and everything. I was quite pissed but I decided if I was patient my ipod would come.

So I just called FedEx and gave them the tracking number and they said the ipod had been sent back to Shanghai. I know that was my ipod even though FedEx wouldn't give me the destination address. I dunno what to do. And since gratis took most of their contact info down I dunno how to contact them.

Actually the same thing happened to me. Tracking through reference I was able to find one was coming that was send out this morning. Only it never made it out of Shanghai.

Since the status was delivered when I clicked on the signature proof I was able to get that the Ipod was in fact addressed to me.

So I did a little tracking number searching, and found out that the exact same thing happened with an assload of iPods that Apple shipped out today. And let me tell you it was an assload. Not just 20gb/s either, 40gb models. Once I hit them I stopped looking and assumed it wasn't a problem with gratis. Only thing is that All the ones on track to Canada seem to still be going.

I'll just assume something is going on over at Apple.

Yeah that's how I found out it was me-by clicking on the signature info.
I called FedEx and they just told me it was sent back to china because it was undeliverable.
I just emailed gratis about it.

Looking at the situation, if you're wanting to find out wants going on, I think you should probably ask Apple about it (with other models being involved as well).

When you call Apple, can they track your delivery by Name and Address?
Am just curios, instead of calling fedex, calling apple directly seems like a better idea.

Pls let us know how friendly Apply customer support with regards to enquiries about deliveries.

Someone just called apple and the rep said they are not sure what is going on there either but to give it 48 hours before calling them again after 48 hours they open an investigation of some type? but they dont know why they were recalled either Theoretically it should get fixed within the next 24 hours or so maybe check back to Fedups later tonight

i've been on the phone with apple for about a half hour, it seems that i'm actually getting somewhere with this guy i'm on the phone with now. He's checking on my order (by tracking number from fedex) and seeing if he can find out any information about why the deliveries have been delayed in China and have the status of "delivered, future delivery requested". I'll get back to you guys if i can get some concrete answers out of them.

UPDATE I'm being told that apple has contacted FedEx and FedEx has told them that the delivery is held up at the Shainghai facility. Apple (business department) is talking to their management right now for me to try to find out what exactly happened.

I talked to apple for at least an hour. They looked very deep into the subject. My ipod was on a fed ex delivery truck only hours from my house when it was requested returned to apple. Apple looked into it for me and they have all those ipods as returned with credit already given to the purchaser. Looks like we are not getting our ipod at the moment. This sucks

My ipod shipped this morning. 9/20 order num 460lilili, 9/27 STV moved to 10/6 STV
and I was tracking my package and then a couple of hours later

It seems this has happened to at least 10 people, going on for a least
a week. For me my package never left China, for others it was a almost
delivered. You could say, they just made a mistake, but this it starting to
be a bad pattern of package take backs .

I just found out I'm in the same boat. My iPod went back to shipper as well. It urks me. I'm starting to worry that Gratis maybe hurting for cash and didn't pay Apple or something along those lines. I hope I am wrong,

I have spoke at length with apple and fed ex. I believe the issue has been resolved with regards to my order at least. I guess mine was accidently a double order, they were sending me two ipods. Apple requested one of them to be returned. The tracking numer on the free ipods website that I have is for the returned order. There was however the other order coming to me. This one was delivered today but I was not at home. I can pick it up tonight at the fedex place. Maybe yours were all double orders too?

I noticed that if I did the reference thing again, using the P reference code, at least 2 ipods shipped out today to my zip. Maybe there engraving again or something? Or they sent out non-engraved ones under that reference. Hopefully we'll find out soon.

I just called the apple number on their web site for checking orders. Apple had no record of it being returned. Fed ex finally found out for me that I had two orders coming, one was good, but the other was being returned (double order).

But the fexex guys said that we will get a different tracking
number. You cant reuse a delivered tracking number, yea i know
i wasnt delivered but techincally it was since it was returned.

He did say that, there might be an exception since its whats called a
"IP Direct Distribution" service
(you can see it in your tracking screen under "service type")

Ok, guys bare with me.

Ive been checking fed ex every day [for the past 20 days] and i just checked right now, 700 pm in California. And all of a sudden it showed a package was shiped to Ontario ,Ca , A major shipping place for fed ex by my house,which is in the city of CORONA, Ca. It looks like an overnight dilivery, so most likely it wasnt gratis, and I think maybe it is mine, but it says it's already dilevered, but the strange thing is, is that its diliverd to the FedEX place in ontario, not a house, and also it says its dilivered to ONTARIO , CN not ONTARIO, CA

There is more than one things going on here. Some people had their iPods sent out, and they started moving outside of China, and were then recalled. This is because there were some duplicate orders.

Something else happened with all the Ipods Apple sent out this morning. They got sent to customs before leaving or something wierd happened. Anyways, right now there is no telling what is actually going on with them. They will probably just start moving again tomorrow or something. It looks to be like Fedex's mistake, though something could have happened with Apple. This is not in any way related to gratis, as other models of ipods were affected.

fedex reference number search
for Nov 3 (to get results for today only)
11/3 - (15 days) = 10/19

So hopefully all the packages
messed up packages were reshipped today.

I spoke with a Apple representive on 10/19/04 and got the scoop. Apparently, the LRT system did not log the Ipods that were sent out of the warehouse. This resulted in the inventory showing more iPods then they had. It was necessary to recall all orders and get them rescanned properly. All orders were re-sent and a new FedX tracking number will be available today. The orders will arrive one to two days later. So, jump for joy, we will get our iPods.

J_west you are the man! Thanks for finding that out, I myself was pretty nervous when it looked like we weren't getting our ipods. I guess we have to find out our new tracking numbers now. Hopefully Gratis will be kind enough to send those, but Fedex express will probably be faster than Gratis. There is a new line for the the new ..4free.com sites. Maybe that will be less drama than Gratis.

I think I may be screwed. I just called up FedEX and they said no packages are shipping to my address. They did tell me about the RTS one, however. The FedEX lady said they're having a problem a China customs and all packages are being RTS as of late. Other then that she didn't tell me much more. Hopefully Apple is one top of it and get my Ipod to me. This is getting ridiculous. What gets me even more mad is that the Reference tracking page shows more then one package shipped. Someone must be getting something. I'm going to wait an hour then call FedEX back up and see if I can get some new information.
