just received my apple ipod yesterday(thx gratis) and i was planning on taking it to the apple store to exchange it for the 40gig one.

i heard that some people used their educational discounts to apply for the exchange, making it only 70 bucks more for an 40 gig ipod.

can anyone who did it tell me a little bit about the whole process?

thx in advance

you just need a student id

for this educational discount, do you have to be in college?

Can you be in middle school? Or is it like a college only thing?

I just used all my dads information so its legal. So basically he could take the iPod away from me if he wanted. lol

The educational discount is good for any student, faculty or staff. Regardless of age.

Bring a report card and some other form of ID?

Why do you have to have an ID? If you are a kid, then you are a student.

I don't know, just bring something. They don't ask for any ID when you buy online so just bring something in good faith.

your school/college has to be registered under apple.

I know because my college prof told my class and led us through the whole thing like the college was actually in the database of apple...
Go to Apple.com > Education > Students > Check out Student Discounts

and then do a search for your school/college.

would they actually let u apply the educational discount even if ur only exchanging ur 20 gig for the 40gig?

has anyone ever been turned down when they tried to use the educational discount towards the ugprade from 20gig to 40gig?

EatChex89

probably, they can do a search for it (most likely) on their computers or something... that's just a way to know if you're schools listed, then you can like print it out and bring a copy in or just argue it with them...

someone in the shoutbox mentioned that they did this yesterday. I thought about it and it didn't make any sense unless he showed a receipt for the ipod that was purchased at $299 instead of $269(with the student discount). And if he did show a receipt that it was't purchased at the store, well then is it even possible to exchange it?

am i makin any sense here? ?

Flyinace2000

your best bet is to walk in and say you got the 20 gig as a gift from grandpa (some relative not living with you) and you do not have the reciet. Tell him you want to swap it for the 40 gig. Tell him you are a student.

Plan B
Go to the apple store. same story about it being a gift but this time you want store credit cause you will be buying a laptop soon....

come back later and get the iPod with the store credt at the educational price. Hopefull this roundabout process won't be needed. ALso this works better if you have 2 apple stores near you.

nowhere does it say students from my school can use the educational discount...

http//store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/routingpage.html
On the left side of the page you can choose to shop for yourself. The right side is for employees of schools.

If that link doesn't work, go to www.apple.com and click on "Education" in the menu on the left side.
