Can you switch back to apple 20gig if you want? Is there that same button that says "switch". I'm debating on switching and if it doesn't ship in like a week or so I'd want to switch back b/c I'd rather have the apple. Thanks.

It works on Macs, HP's just being dumb.

I don't believe you can switch back. You will get what's first available, which is probably going to be an hPod. There is a chance you could get a regular iPod, tho.

once u go hp, u can't go back...i just switched since i figure there's a huge ammount of HP's and not so many Apple's. Either way it says "HP 20GB Ipod (If available)"...that must mean something, right?

so if i switch i want the ability to return it to a store if something goes wrong...like walmart for instance has no questions on returns no matter the length of time or no receipt, haha. Are stores like that or even other stores gonna sell the hp ipod?

this is quoted from the HP website...

"I have both a Mac and a PC. Will my Apple iPod from HP work on both?

No, not at the same time. Your iPod is configured for a PC and formatted for Windows.

NOTE You can convert an iPod formatted for Windows into an iPod formatted for Mac by using the iPod for Mac Software Updater utility on the Apple website . Note that once it is reformatted, it will only work with Macs. You need Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.1 or later to reformat an iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac. Using the Apple iPod from HP on a Mac is not supported by HP."

Is the apple ipod the same way?

actually NO you cant switch back.
They will ship out right away. If you get the apple, it might be more than a month wait. Apple is way backed up.

Untrue, there was a time b4 where u could change back, with the recent site changes and the real release of the HPod you cannot change it back. But as admin said, i really don't think you lose your change in line, if its available they send it, if not you get Apple's

As far what computer can be used with what, the HPod and the iPod are identical in that they use the same hardware and do the same thing. The HPod ships with a FAT32-formatted HDD, which is a Windows file system. The iPod ships with a Mac-formatted HDD. HOWEVER when an Apple iPod is plugged into a Windows machine for the first time, you can format the iPod to be Windows-compatible (FAT32). Theoretically you should be able to format either an HPod or an iPod for Windows or Mac as many times as you want.

And you would obviously lose your files everytime you did that

Obviously. Derrr...but the point is, it doesn't matter what logo is laser engraved on the back, an iPod is an HPod is an iPod...

All you do to change is go to the complete offer page, then select the ipod that you want. if thats unsuccsessful, then just cancel the order and place an order on what you want.

Call me an Apple Computer snob, but I do not want a beautiful thing like an iPod dirtied with an hp logo.... but that's just weird ol' me.

If you cancel your order you have to sit through the entire process again and lose your place in line. Also, after you reach the "Sent to vendor" phase you can't cancel it.

Oh, I think that HP desktop home PCs are absolute pieces of pathetic barely-can-be-called-shit, but they still make some of the best large scale laser printers in the industry. It's just some engraving. You could always buff the entire back so it's ALL that muted gray. )

How do you switch to HP if you're already "sent to vendor?"

Dennis

There is a button to switch to HP on the order page. Don't know if they are doing that anymore though.
