I have a friend who says that he never received his iPod even after completing all the requirements. He emailed Gratis about it, waited forever, and when they finally got back to him, they said they put his account on hold because he had cancelled his Ancestry.com account before the free 2 week trial was over, and this meant that he had not completed the offer successfully.
Has anyone else had this experience?

That's in their reformed TOS they can put your account on hold if they get bad feedback from their advertisers. That includes(but is not limited to) cancelling the trial offers right away.

But what if someone uses the trial offer for the two weeks it is offered, and enjoys it, and finds out all about her family history...but then has to cancel it because she cannot afford the $100 annual membership? That is not canceling immediately...
lisighli would it help for me to complete a second offer that I can actually afford just in case?

In that case you have a valid point so i really wouldn't know...maybe he just did something that was frowned upon by gratis. I recommend you try Stamps, it's also instant and way more useful than ancestry...it's amazing what you can learn from your grandparents ;)

I signed up for ancestry and they didn't even have info on my family. I'm going to have to cancel anyway =\

I completed my offer though ancestry.com and I waited like a week, just so they wouldn't think I was bailing out fast and put my order on hold... but I'm STV now, so can they still put my order on hold? Crap, i hope not... anyways when I canceled they asked me a bunch of questions on why I'm canceling so I just made up a bunch of stuff, saying that I couldn't find the info, and I was gonna trying just asking relatives. So I hope they don't give me bad feed back to freeipods, that would suck! Good luck guys, seems like they're starting to ship!
