Hi, I'm a 9/27 STV (or 9/24, i don't remember) turned 10/6, so i figure I have a couple of weeks. Since we're getting stock apple iPods now, i figure I'll trade up to a 40GB. Anyone have any experience taking stuff back to electronics stores without receipts? I got a CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Apple Store all in the same mall area (Easton, Columbus, OH), and was wondering what y'alls opinions are on the best option to do so.

I would go to the Apple Store...

Be like

"I got this as a gift, and haven't opened it because i have too much music for the 20 gig, and would like to upgrade to the 40."

They will do an exchange and ask you for 100 bucks then your are good to go!

costco is good if its avaiable, though you need you need a membership, they take back mostly anything, and if you buy it there you can return it whenever even if its broken for full price aslong as you got the receipt.

I woudn't be surprised if Costco started expanding their modified computer return policy (30 days, I believe) to include all other electronic merchandise - otherwise it could result in a huge financial loss for them. Just a thought or something.

( No, Best Buy wouldn't do it. I tried returning something else without a receipt and they said they can't do it unless we have proof that you bought it from Best Buy. I think it's on their return policy. This was in Phoenix, AZ.

BestBuy's return policy is gay...

However in target's ad for this week i saw them advertising iPod minis, this means they probably have 20GB Ipods as well... I suggest going there and saying you got it as a gift, they usually are pretty good about it.

Why don`t you try a nearby Apple Store? If you`re a student they'll give you $30 discount also. I think that's your best bet if you want an Apple iPod.
