[quoteafca52736d="lizerauti"]might be because of your HOSTS file[/quoteafca52736d]you know, i was thinking this may have been my problem w/ the offer. however, by the time i got around to changing it to the default one, the offer was gone. the world may never know...

how the hell would this have to do with the hosts file?

Why would a ebay entry even be in the hosts file? WHat purpose would that serve?

why the hosts file would stop the ebay offer (and who knows what others) from working
by princess

the installation of k++ (kazaalite) and some other programs/utilities add a slew of advertising sites to your hosts file that point all the advert sites to localhost (127.0.0.1). some of the offers rely on those sites to work. the specific one that the ebay offer relies on is qksrv.net. the redirects go from ffs -> ads.txprofile.net -> to some address on qksrv.net (it refreshes too fast for me to see it) -> ebay. like i said, the failure occurs at qksrv.net as this entry in the hosts file

127.0.0.1 www.qksrv.net

stops it from getting the page from qksrv that it needs to redirect to ebay. i would venture to guess that most host file modification to redirect ads would include an entry for qksrv based on how well known it is. that my dears, is how the hosts file prevents the ebay offer from working.

/me wonders if this thread is how i got negative karma

you don't have to use the same email address for ebay that you use for ffs. my friend signed up for ffs using gmail and then when i told him to use a non-free email addy to sign up with ebay, he did that and still got credit. of course .. we'll see if it stands once i go thru verification

Princess and all others, I have gotten the same problem through the ebay link. It goes through a series of redirects only to end up with "The Display page is unavailable" Does anyone have an idea on how to fix it?
Thanks.
