So I just called my local apple store and told them I was receiving a "gift" minimac from a friend and that it would arrive next week. He said I was eligible for the free Tiger upgrade and that there would be a link on apple's site for it where you fill out your info and pay $10 for shipping.
Just a heads-up.

Is there any reason you can't just take the mini into the apple store unopened and switch it for one that will definetely have tiger? That is what I plan to do.

sn's not from any of apple's stores or online store are not found using the online form. they tell you to send in the paper form with your proof of purchase.

I WIN! I purchased mine a week ago when I returned the Gratis one, and I ordered the upgrade.

Search for local apple store @ apple.com. Scroll to the bottom and click "retail".

buy it, try to talk somebody at the apple store into giving you a drop in pack, or join apple developers connection.
Any college students can become a student developer for $99, and get a copy of tiger. they will usually ship a new version (I.E. 10.3, 10.3.4, 10.3.7) when they become available. Its well worth the $99.

If I am entitled to the cheap upgrade, I can't see the rationale in purchasing it at full price. I've never used a Mac before and can't rationalize putting forth more of a financial committment to something I may despise.
i'd just like to know IF we're eligible, and if so, how do we prove it without an invoice stating we paid for it.
