Got it from FreeMiniMacs, spent $350 pimpin' it out from my return @ the Apple Store. Cost me about $300 total, since I already had $600 from the Gratis Mac Mini return.

I got you beat on the laptop... Toshiba P133 with 80mb of RAM running Win2K. It takes 18 mins to boot up before I can click anything.
Maybe I should have went for an iBook before the Mac mini.... he he
Either way, I'm going to enjoy the mini.

The best upgrade besides RAM on the Mac Minis is to replace the slow ass 4200RPM laptop HD with the Hitachi 60GB 7200 RPM laptop drive (about $175).

i thought that the mini's hard drive was at LEAST 5400 RPMs

Is the 80gb drive faster than the 40gb? Our minis are coming with the 80gb drive
dunno
22-04-2005 16:08:47
The 40 gig harddrives are 5400 rpm and the 80 gig harddrives are 4200 rpm.
hehehhehe

Yeah, what dunno says. The HD is the weak point of the mini, but the hitachi HD brings it up to par for most applications. Too bad it's not bigger though... An external firewire drive is cheaper but it takes away from the "mini" concept.

Wow... the 80gbs are slower??? that's wild.
I'll have to get a 120gb when they come out here soon. It's a laptop hard drive, so it can't be that hard to replace.

My mini
Tiger Server (legit beta copy)
Apple BT Keyboard
Apple BT Mouse
Apple BT Kit (I installed myself)
I put the airport card in my G5. I will be getting 1GB of ram in the coming weeks. My mini server is connected to my 27" TV.

Installed the gig myself. MetFoo, how'd you connect it to your TV? I have a wireless Microsoft keyboard, so I don't need the Bluetooth one right now. Will be picking one of these up http//www.engadget.com/entry/1234000993041052/

i bought the dvi to S-video cable. Its 19.00. Picture quality is OK, but not great. Video/photos look good, but text sucks. I need a TV with DVI inputs. I am waiting for the costs to drop some. My TV is too new to upgrade

MetFoo, I have a JVC TV from 2 years ago with a DVD player but no S-VIDEO in (I know, it sucks). Is there any good way to hook up my Mini?

the dvi to svideo also has a composite video output on it. Only one port is active at any given time
