So I got my 20gig last night. This morning I went to the Apple store in my local mall, said it was a gift and I'd rather have the 30gig iPod Photo. They were having problems with their registers, so I don't know if that helped at all. Finally they found a working register, the guy did the exchange, gave me my student discount, and had me out the door with my brand new iPod Photo.

Cost to me $21.60

So really it went pretty smoothly. And it is possible. )

Edit ... Oh hehe, the Atlanta ones.. Sorry lol, I should be more observant ) But someone else said the same thing in another forum, sooo...

Edit again Oh hehe, that was you, dug... Sorry lol, I'm unobservant yet again P

On apple's site they do, I don't see why a retail store would be any different )

Probably gets them more customers among the younger crowd, which tend to set trends, students see other students with a free iPod, so they want one.. More income hehe.. )

Yes, the cashier had to see my drivers license and my Student ID. Not sure why on the Driver's License, but I'm not complaining.

You think they'd have a problem with a student ID card from last year? I believe it says I was in 11th grade on it, or at least it says "011", but I lost mine from this year... Any idea though?

I went to the apple store in nyc and traded it in for the photo one w/ my student i.d. for an extra $20.73. No problems, but he did have to scan it a couple times.
Does anyone think the photo is much heavier than the reg 20gb one???

According to the technical specs, the 20 gig is 5.6 ounces and the 30 gig is 5.9 ounces. Nothing you would notice.

My account was approved April 19, lihopefullyli I'll have my iPod by the first week of May. The educational price for an iPod photo is $319, and the Apple Store at the Christiana Mall won't charge sales tax... (Delaware).

for those who've traded up with a student discount, how strict are they? I have a college id from a couple years ago...but the valid date was on a sticker which i've since peeled of for movies and things...think they'll take it?

Another question. Lets say I did get an ipod. And wanted to head to the Apple store at my local mall. Said it was a gift, I have a drivers liscense but no Student ID Card, since im not in college at this point in time (enrolling though!!, wish me luck on that too), how much will I have to pay extra ? if its like an extra 25 dollars I wont even care. Also, isnt that illegal since you technically didnt get it at their local store ? + dont have a receipt , or is it against the law in any way ??? Help me out here.

Nice job on the trade though, extra 10 gb would set me up nice, for an extra, 0.3 ounces, thats insane!! shock

gaboi83

22-04-2005 16:25:45

Um, i'm pretty sure it's not illegal. Technically I did receive it as a gift from Gratis.

You'll have to pay whatever the difference in price is between a 20 and 30 gig. It'll be a little over $50 with tax.

i don't think it'll be a problem. my college id (current and valid) doesn't have a date of issue or expiration date on it and they accepted it. i'm going to be using it for discounts for as long as i possibly can.
