Okay since there is talk of this forum being dead, I decided to start a PSP game review post. Hopefully this gives people an idea of what games suck and rock. Please only post reviews or questions here. I will review games when I rent them.
[b5cfcfe16ba]Remember to say rent or buy in your reviews.[/b5cfcfe16ba] I mean who wants to buy a game they can beat in a week.

Wipeout
I found this game sweet. The controls are good and graphics are insane. The soundtrack is good too. You can only control one of 8 cars. I am not sure but so far i know there are only 16 tracks which is kind of limited.

The gameplay is good, the controls are responsive however when your in the faster races it is much harder and therefore more fun or more of a pain in the arse depending on the level of challenge you like. One thing I noticed though, which is probably like all the racing games is, since you will probably use the analog stick for better control, your hands cramp up a bit after a little while of play.

The attacks in the game are pretty cool. There are 10 of them, from shield to autopilot to quakes(one of my favs).

I have yet to check out the multiplayer mode but will be doing that soon with a friend.

have not finished the game yet so I will update this review as soon as I do. However, I give this game a 8/10. This game is definitely worth checking out. I suggest renting it though, unless you have friends with it to be able to play the MP.

Mecury

This game involves being a glob of mecury and moving the board so that your mecury reaches its target. If you go over a ledge too much you will lose some of your mercury. Obvoiously there are task to perform before reaching the end. This game reminded me of Marble Madness but way better. What makes this game so addicting and fun is that your glob starts off as a color(depends on level what color you start out as) and while your going through you have to change color blue to hit a blue switch for example. The mercury can split up allowing you to mix colors for example you have a red glob and a blue glob, mixing them gives you purple(in case you don't know your colors). There is much more to it than I am going to type about, but that is a quick overview.

The graphics are really good here. Your mercury moves around realistically and it seems the motions(in physics) are correct. I was blown away by these graphics and level designs. You can move into many different angles and there is always a good view for you to use.

Here is one thing I like about this game, the soundtrack. It is like techno music but very catchy and when using headphones, it sounds awesome.

Gameplay is simple you use the analog stick to move the board and the buttons to chang angles. Simple but addicting.

Overall, this game is sweet. I give it a 9/10 for the great graphics and sound. This game is simple but becomes very challenging. I suggest renting this game also. However I doubt that you will beat it within a week. It is one of those games where if you get stuck for so long you get pissed (eventually you beat the level ;) ) Definitly check it out.

Thats all for now. The next review I will be doing is Untold Legends. I just rented it so I need to check it out a bit before posting. I hope this post helps some people. Please feel free to post comments so I can do better in the future.

Wipeout Pure

Graphics Superb, effects are great and I never have any lag time.
Sound Not my cup of tea but it hasn't turned stale yet which is a good thing.
Gameplay I'm not a racing fan but I love this game. Load times are a bit excessive to pull the game out for a quick race, but no race will take you more than 5 minutes for a 3 lap race. Physics feel great and I love the way the thrust handles. AI could be better at racing but they are great at placing mines and shooting missiles.
Rating 9/10

Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix

Graphics Good, but an obvious port. They are not designed for the PSP screen and background textures aren't very full.
Sound I've liked previous Tony Hawk soundtracks better but you can't beat the 35+ songs that are included with this game. From Frank Sinatra to Metallica you'll find something to skate to.
Gameplay I haven't mastered it yet but it seems like a good game for the PSP. It can be a little difficult at times even for me and I consider myself an average Tony Hawk player. There are an absurd number of levels in this game so there should never be a problem with repitiveness. The main issue I have with this game is that it really doesn't have the PSP game feel. But maybe I just need to play it more.
Rating 8/10

Untold Legends

Graphics Eh, nothing special. Everything seems kinda tiny. Background textures are nice though I just think they could have done a better job on characters.
Sound Repetitive Repetive Repetitive Repetitive Repetitive... Repetitive
Gameplay Basic diablo hacknslash. Easy to get back to town if you need to, leveling up can be done midlevel whenever and wherever and you get lots of skill points for it. This game is a definite renter(which I'm doing) once you beat it or get sick of it, just send it back. The coolest thing I've found so far was the fight with the spider boss, but I'm not very far in the game.
Rating 6.5/10

Lumines

Graphics Game graphics are sublime! Perfect system for the near perfect game... I'm telling you right now, my only beef with this game is the weak menu graphics. They looks like they were thrown together in a few minutes and in no way fit the feel of the game. But the game graphics are amazing.
Sound Perfectly chosen non repetitive music. Some of the songs feel like they were made for this game(and they may have been) Can you still remember the few songs that tetris had? These songs have that same puzzle ambiance to them with a more youthful touch. "Move yo body down to the ground"
Gameplay I'm not sure I totally understand the gameplay yet but you have blocks of four with 2 different colors. When colors align in blocks of four or more they are removed and like tetris you get a game over when the whole screen is filled. You do have a large screen to work with and on my first try I was able to unlock 6 or 7 levels. The levels are skinned with special music and as you progress you unlock more. You'll just feel the game flow at times. This game is a PSP Drug!
Rating 9.5/10 (Would have been perfect with a better menu system)

Twisted Metal
Head On. I was a big fan of this game on PS2, so I thought I would try it out for the PSP. It still has the same great gameplay and terrific graphics for the PSP; however, I find the game to be repetitive at times, as all levels have basically the same mission. It is still a great game, but very similar to the PS2 version. I give it a 7/10. I would say rent it before buying.

It's hard for us to review games when a lot of us are still waiting on our damn freepsps.

Thanks for the opinions though.

Here's a question

Any idea if Blockbuster (in-store) will start renting out PSP games anytime soon?

Also, where are YOU renting from? Gamefly?

Thanks.

I used to work in a blockbuster store and some stores are test stores and get many features before the rest, like the store I used to work in had PC games for rent but that never left the testing stage, it was a miserable failure.

I have to also retract some of my previous posts (from other threads) where I crapped on Metal Gear Acid. As a HUGE fan of the special ops games (i.e. Splinter Cell), I was very disappointed when I started playing MGAcid. I picked it up on a recommendation from a buddy who lives & dies by his PS2.

Unknown to me, the game was not quite what I expected. It was less 1st person action and more of a card/strategy game. I set it aside and didn't touch it for weeks.

Now that I have it back out.... I'm HOOKED! Once you get into the game and start to understand the moves, rules, etc. it is actually pretty good gameplay. The dialog is painfully slow, but the levels are pretty challenging. It really takes some planning and strategic moves to get beyond the first handful of levels.

If you haven't yet, give Metal Gear Acid a try. Don't expect it to be a quick-hit, but if you can stick it out for a little while, it may actually grow on you.

My 2 cents....
