play UMD disks? It would be cool to pop a UMD disk out of the psp and plug it into the PS3. Movies or games. What do you guys think?

I'm sure Sony would be out to make as much money as possible...if they were to add support of UMD discs on the PS3, it would more than likely lower sales of the PSP, but I guess sorta boost PS3 sales...but they would be trying to gain as much profit as possible.

Although...an add-on would be cool, but I don't think so...

Who knows? Can't wait for E3.

Theres rumors that xbox plans on screwing sony over by doing this

They are gonna bring out the Xbox 2 within the next year, so that its out for a while. Then, when the PS3 is planned to come out, they are going to realease Halo 3. It will screw Sony over, pretty bad. If thats what they do.

Don't cry for sony, they screwed over Nintendo a long time ago not to mention Sega. Its the way the world of game consoles seems to work.

I think they will allow UMD movie playback on the PS3 as well as some of their newer DVD players. It would be silly of them to introduce a new movie format and not make it available for playback on the home theater. From what I understand the UMD movies have the same resolution and quality as DVD, just a better compression format.

Personally I think they would have been better ignoring UMD movie discs all together and releasing downloadable copy protected movies that could be put on cards. An itunes for movies experience. That would have been amazingly successful and still can be done.

UMD will be cool at first but the thought of reproducing a DVD collection in UMD discs with no apparent gain in quality does not seem intelligent. People will go for whats cheap and easiest to play. Sony should have learned their lesson from BetaMax and Minidisc and Atrac3.

I am sure Sony will create a new brand of media similar to the UMD as, yes, they are out for a lot of profit. Plus, unless UMD comes out with enough capacity as a Blue-Ray DVD it will be useless for the PS3. I heard they were going to use Blue-Ray DVD's on the PS3. These can hold about 45GB-50GB. I doubt a 2GB UMD disc will do much on the PS3 when compared to 50GB ;).

Releasing Halo 3 when Sony releases PS3 wouldn't screw Sony over...all the Sony fans will go out to buy PS3, and Xbox fans will go buy Halo 3...the fans that like both will probably get either both or pick up the PS3 and Halo 3, or just PS3 and some games...trust me, it won't mess up Sony's sales.

I disagree...I think it would raise the sales of both b/c you could buy games for your psp to take on the road, but when you come home you could pop it into your console and play it on a big screen with controller...I know I'd love that...

Playing a UMD game designed for the PSP on a big screen would be pretty poor in quality compared to a PS3 or XBOX 360 game (let alone a PS2/XBOX game). Still, the ability to play a game both on the go and at home on a larger screen is an added draw.

An apparent 'leaked' ps3 photo says it will play UMD disks. Who knows if its legit or not.

psp games are also 169 widescreen so you would either have black bars or a funny looking game. Its just not a good idea.

I think the new xbox will pwn sony in sales especially if it comes out with halo 3 the day the ps3 launches - but thats just my opinion wink

It depends on graphics capabilities. XBox completely pwns PS2 because of graphics, frame rate, etc. Sony could go crazy on this next console.
