Does anyone else have any ideas about what you technically [i92ea26f5bd]could[/i92ea26f5bd] do with your free iPod once it arrives? Some people said they were ordering regular ipods and trading them in for Minis (while still having some money left over), but I started thinking that if you're going to trade in a 300 dollar item at Circuit City/Best Buy for store credit, there's a lot of things you could get instead...
Like a new TV, a digital camera, a deck for your car, computer peripherals...
Does anyone know if Circuit City or Best Buy will take an unopened ipod for store credit though?

maybe if you said it was a gift.. which isn't lying D

circuity city would probably take it before best-buy.. but they'd both prolly take it. MAYBE......

as long as the item is sealed (or in some case's best buy will still take it back even if it's been opened as long as everything is in the box) and you tell them it was a gift they'll give you store credit.
i know the best buy / circuit city and compusa in my area all carry the 20gig hPod now. not that it matters though im keepin' mine ;)

However, if it's opened BestBuy might charge you 15% restocking fee. I returned my digital camera 3 days after I bought it, and they charged me 60USD just because it was open. Read the fine print very carefully) Your best bet is to return it shrink-wrapped.

good call phbs. i forgot to add that.
just a side note, and completely off topic...if your looking to save alot of money on a new tv / digital cam / etc best buy has an 'open box' sale after xmas. basically all those items that people opened and then decided they didnt want. nothings wrong w/them except the box has been opened.
you can make out like a bandit w/the savings on some larger electronics. so if you plan on trading in your ipod to purchase something else you may wanna hold off till just after xmas. (that is if you can wait that long ;) )
Screw that, I have myself a high-speed "flash" drive wherever I go. I have a playlist in the root that references to the iPod's song library (in that hidden "iPod Control" folder), so I can plug in to any old winbloze computer at school, copy my homework, research, projects, etc, listen to tunes, etc etc, all at the same time AND charge my ipod! I think thats a lot better than a measly 256 or 512mb flash stick. (Hell I can put divx movies on it, and watch those at school or a friends house too)

they wouldn't notice that i have a 3 month old iPod would they? (Once I get my iSkin, I can have a nice unskathed iPod too, this metal scratches too easy).

iwes - nope, just tell them it was a gift. no questions asked. if its opened theres the small restocking fee, but other then that they could care less.
i suppose i should cough up the dough then and get a 40 gig.

Is the ipod plug and play like a flash drive? Or do you actually need to install some kind of software in every computer you pretend to use it on?

It could make a handy paperweight or doorstop.

I think you can use it as a usg-storage device, you wouldn't need any extra software.

I think when you plug it in to a usb port it appears in "my computer" as removable storage, like a flash drive.
