Fedex tracking #

guys, the rumors of a large shipment of iPods is indeed true. Someone on the gearlive boards gave their tracking number, and based i'm what i'm finding, there's a lot iPods being shipped right now from Shanghai (mine still isn't in there though). Fedex tracking numbers are very easy. It's all numbers so if you have Excel, you can make an increasing or decreasing list, and copy and paste them all into the tracking box. I've been doing it for about 15 minutes now. My latest number is 687774972242 but i started from 687774973260 and went down mainly because the guy's ip3 was 8/13.

Forward this info to Opious and others and help us out by tracking more numbers.

Oh, and if Fedex asks, I know nothing of it...

I'm guessing these are all mini's.

Phbs83

02-10-2004 11:17:20

They aren't Minis. Packages are 2.2lbs, so it's much more than the minis) Plus someone who was sent their Ipod, contacted Gratis and they confirmed it was NOT the mini (not sure which one was it though, can`t remember).

I feel soo special. A thread about me! Yeah, that's my tracking number up there.

Anyway, I said it is probably [i4829f4431b]not[/i4829f4431b] an hpod, because the other that shipped switched on 9/22, and I did on 9/15. We were both 8/13 though. So I am assuming they are regular ipods. Anyway, any Q's, just ask.

mapStuart

02-10-2004 11:41:37

I just noticed that the Reference for the two tracking numbers you entered is the same. With FedEx you can track by reference (in this case "P9282LL/A" - the part number for the Apple 20GB iPod), then choose USA as the country and enter your zip code for the delivery location. Might be a way to not have to hunt and peck for your iPod, but search for it specifically.

Unfortunately the theory is sound, but it doesn't seem to take the zipcode as a unique value because its returning the fact that there isn't a unique match (I'm using the Yukon, OK tracking number OP provided - so I wouldn't imagine multiple are going there... maybe I'm wrong). However, I tried my zip code and the same information and it returned Not Tracked - so I guess its still a method to test if one is coming to your zipcode - you just can't find the details that way. Only whether or not you have one coming to your zipcode or not.

frozenhubcap

02-10-2004 11:44:27

I wouldn't see more than maybe a few coming to Yukon. We have about 25,000 people here, and it is kinda ritzy, so I can't really say though. Anyway, if you need the zip for Yukon, it's 73099. Have fun.

Phbs83

02-10-2004 11:50:42

And which one should I choose then - FedEx Express, Freight, Custom Critical or ... Ground?) Because it says "Unique match was not found, please enter FedEx account number")

Not sure what you meant by this, but in the US the minimum weight for a package (not letter) is 1 lb. I can only assume that overseas, the minimum is 1kg (2.2 lbs.).

mapStuart

02-10-2004 11:58:27

You choose FedEx Express and select "Reference" or "Shipper Reference" - however, if you already made it to that screen than there is one coming to your zipcode (I don't even make it that far). When you select Express it still returns as non unique and asks for the FedEx Account Number (which I don't know).

First of all, I already received my order, the weight of the package was wrong so people kept telling me I wasn't getting a mini because it was 2.0lbs (1.1kgs).

And when my package did arrive, it was at 0.7kgs (1.0lbs) and it was a mini.

Now there are variety of similar situations so just thought i'd point out the errors of the packaging weights.

Ok, well in the course of the hour, I tracked more than 6500 possible numbers and got about 2-3 valid numbers for each group of 30, so they're definitely shipping. I'm going to try sending an email to Gratis asking what kind of iPods were shipped. There's still more to track; i stopped at 687774966842. Opious and the team has the tracking numbers too, so they'll be updating the list soon i hope.

It's unfortunate that i found shipments for all the cities around my city, but not my own city!

I think even though it says that the delivery date is Oct. 20, I checked a shipment headed to VA and CA and they were the same delivery date. I know it doesn't take Fedex 20 days to cross the Pacific from Shanghai, so knowing Fedex, it'll probably arrive sooner.

Good luck to all who found their tracking #'s, and if you find one for Dublin, CA, plz PM me. my ip3 date is 8/10 so it should be in there.

There is actually no point in censoring gratis order numbers.. no one else can even view the page, but an extremely crafty person could perhaps convince them to send it to them, but they could do that with any number, so why doesn't it happen all the time? I'm just hoping no one out there will be enough of a prick to try.

That's what I was talking about previously. If you get "Unique Match" not found - that means that there is a shipment matching that coming to your zipcode. There isn't a way to actually get a tracking number from it (even when you get to the next step), but at least it'll let you know there's one coming to your zip code (whether its yours or not you'll just have to wait and find out...).

02-10-2004 14:43:44

OMG! I came up with the search by reference system but when I was trying it for myself I got NOT TRACKED or something to that affect. However, just now I did it again and it actually gave me my tracking number - I guess it was unique! It shows that it was just shipped TODAY which is why it didn't show up earlier.

So they're still shipping out items today! And it looks like mine is possibly on its way!

(Must keep expectations down...)

mapStuart

02-10-2004 14:45:07

It makes sense that a large order, like gratis places would ship one after another, not 3 from Gratis, then a 40GB to someone, then continue Gratis' order for a while. I'm just saying it seems likely that a bunch are from Gratis. Not saying it is solid proof.

mapStuart

02-10-2004 16:04:01

It all depends on how their system is set-up, although I agree with you. But considering each order is for a unique item it would have to be individually keyed in (each iPod goes out to a separate address as opposed to all of them going to Gratis). So, in a sense they could have other orders interspersed with Gratis orders... And then, if there were a backlog that then got fulfilled, it would depend on how the orders get sorted when they're being fulfilled or assigned tracking numbers. They could take a selected date range, but then sort it alphabetically or by geography, etc... So it is hard to say if they're sequential.

However, the tracking numbers do seem to be grouped by iPod type, so there's one sorting method. After that, whether its in order of the time it was placed, alphabetical, or whatever its hard to guess. I guess its just something to speculate on as we pass the time waiting for our free stuff...

Just so you all know, I got 2 IMs from people last night asking if they're town was in my list, when I told people not to IM me.

I have a question. Are we sure that there wasn't an order from Gratis that got shipped on the 28th, 29th, or 30th? If so, it will make this go MUCH faster (because that will cut down the numbers by about 50,000, which is about 4,500 valid tracking numbers).

Could those individuals who believe they've matched a FedEx tracking number to their Gratis order please post their Gratis order numbers (or at least the first 4 digits) so we can get an idea of what ranges are being covered by this latest shipment?

It probably doesn't matter anymore -- so many people switched and were shipped, etc. that it's all messed up.

I did that track by reference thing yesterday, nothing showed up for my zip code. When I did it today, a package (with a tracking number) showed up. I called FedEx, and they said that the package IS coming to me!

freeipods.com is still saying stv, but FedEx says otherwise.

When should i expect it? The first day listed on the tracking site is the 4th, it left FedEx ramp today, and says ill get it the 20th. Is this accurate? The 20th seems like a very long time.

3/4 days? Thats soon, but is also Friday/Monday. I'm hoping for the Friday!

Anyway, I went STV on 8/10, and switched to the HP on 9/9. Although, I guess switching didn't do anything for me. Even though it will be an engraved iPod, I'm happy to know that it is heading my way.
