i just shipped out yesterday. i'm an 8/10 STV, 9/15 hPod switch, order number 4538lili. it's coming from shanghai, china, with a scheduled delivery date of october 20th, weighing 1.0 kg (~2.20462262 pounds). i have no idea if it's an hPod or an iPod.
i belive this is all the information that i can supply.

i will gladly contribute my tracking number, whoever i am supposed to send it to please reply here with information.

Congrats, buddy! Glad to know things are still moving, albeit slowly. From what I've heard, don't rely on the delivery date -- you should have it by the end of next week.

Earlier, people thought orders shipped from China were mini ipods but right now, we don't know anymore.. Some say they never ordered a mini nor switched to one yet their orders are coming from China... They're probably backordered that's why some are coming from China. And FYI,
the weight of the packages and the arrival dates are way off. Youll be receing ur package no longer than four days! )

I hoped I helped some..D -karmas appreciated.

Units ordered directly from Apple come from China.

congrats!

awesome, thank you all for your help. i'm hoping it will come very soon. since it's from china, i can assume it's coming from apple, and it certainly can't be a mini, so i could also assume it's an ipod and not an hpod...i hope!
thanks again for your help, i'll keep you updated.

Where have you been? They haven't shipped things in order for a long time! Since you switched to the HP, you might be in the next batch of HPs to ship from a stateside vendor....

okay, just an update for everyone, as of today, my ipod left shanghai, arrived in anchorage, alaska, then has "departed location," and is currently "in transit." i'm assuming that means that it has left anchorage and is headed towards me. i'm expecting it by wednesday, now that it's in the country. so it should be arriving here in louisiana quite soon!
i'll let y'all know when i get more news.

I'm also an 8/10 stv, and I also switched 9/9, and I'm also still stv. This is making me mad.

man, that sucks...i don't know, perhaps yours has already shipped out as well, and they just haven't updated the site?
i hope so, it's kinda unfair.

i'm pretty sure i'm getting an apple though...so i doubt switch date has much to do with it. but you still ordered a day before me...

...why would it go to Tennessee first?

I don't think it will go to TN first.

The FedEx HQ/Hub is in Memphis.

+1 for the mad crew.

rosenduger

that's right, they have the distribution thing in memphis.

anyways, as of this morning, it is still "In Transit," but now it has gotten to indianapolis, IN, and the activity is "Int'l Shipment Release."

i guess now it goes to either tennessee or here to louisiana.

DIGITALgimpus

Intl. arrivals from Asia typically go to indiana first.

They are then checked by US Customs (Int'l Shipment Release)...

then released to ship to their destination.

They have to go through indiana because indiana is equipped to check all the packages that arrive.

If they went direct to every city, it would be a costly, and logistical nightmare for FedEx.

tyketto

05-10-2004 07:04:42

Yeah, Fed Ex's business model was built on everything going to their hub... even shipments in the same town. It's the easiest way for them to do things.

mapStuart

05-10-2004 07:35:34

Digitalgimpus is right - the international shipments route through Indianapolis. You'll see a status like "Int'l shipment release" from INDIANAPOLIS, IN and you'll receive the iPod within 1 or two days of that. Mine shows that as its status as of 1224 AM last night Indiana time. Looking around it looks like its not out of the ordinary that I'd receive the iPod today, but tomorrow at the latest (assuming the one I'm following is indeed for me since FIP hasn't updated my status).

DIGITALgimpus

05-10-2004 07:45:32

The reason is customs.

They need to have everything inspected. To have that type of facility, and staff coordination at every airport is very expensive... not to mention many points of failure.

So to keep things efficient... they route it all through indianapolis.

I'd guess they choose it because it's not a popular international destionation, but does take international traffic (not to busy). It's also [off]center of the continental US, making it geographically wise.
