The Dell wasnt a celeron when I ordered it... Fucking basterds... I'm gonna be really pissed if I spent all that time to get 10 referals over a peice of shit celeron... Only hope is that the Dell says "MINIMUM of the following"

Edit Thanks to Gratis, the message that was here is, well, no longer needed. D

well lets hope the celeron is the minimum, I think they change only the description so more people choose the others instead of just the dell and that's why they include "includes the min of....." but in reality it's a P4 like it was before. Anyway it's free so we can't complain.

To me, it was [b2fe4f895c0]very[/b2fe4f895c0] worth it! I'm using an old 733Mhz Dell ... it is definitely time to upgrade. Even the celeron would be a huge upgrade for me! )

I already have 2 green for it... so if i dont want to do it i'll just stay in my conga line and hope to get some over the years...

I heard that they state minimum because they don't know what pc we'll be getting. The stats will change because we'll get whatever the special is when they decide to order. So we may bet a P4 if it's on sale the day of the order.

You don't want to know what I have. shock P

That's of little comfort. It's no flatscreen, so it's not a deciding factor for me. The fact that Gratis had originally intended to ship out P4s (Which they are honouring up to the change date), leads me to believe that the best chance at a P4 is to go with it anyway. (Some of the others can ship with P4s from their own sites, but there is no "Minimum" mentioned in their Gratis descriptions)

A Celeron is better than nothing.....

By the way, does anyone know if the motherboards in these models will support P4 CPUs if I happen to get one afterward?

I beleive that all the 2400 use the same mobo's regardless of the chip... I think thats just how dell works...

Thanks.

The others probably do too, but so far I'm sticking with the Dell.

Well they all have celerons... The dell is still the best regardless... It offers a CRT Monitor, 256 Megs of Ram, and a 7200RPM harddrive...

The HD rpm speed IS one of the things that tipped me towards the Dell. ;)

Still, it's a 40GB, and I'm likely to get a 160-200GB drive in the next few months, so that's not the biggest selling point for me either.

It does suck that they changed the dell. It's cool that they are honoring the pentiums for those that ordered before the change but it sucks for most who signed up and started trying to get a pc because of the dell. Kind of a bait and switch thing, without the intention I'm sure. Although a free pc is a free pc, the dell (the origional one) was the ONLY reason I decided to try it. Now, I feel kind of cheated even though I have not gotten all my referrals. They SHOULD honor the P4's for all those that signed up before the change date, not just those that ordered. I know it says in the terms and conditions that they can change pretty much anything they want but it's more on the legit business image thing that they should consider even if it cost them a few extra dollors to cover the people who signed up before the change. Those that signed up after wouldn't know the difference and wouldn't feel cheated in that sense.

If nothing else, would be nice if there was an option to "upgrade" or pay the difference to still get the P4 instead of the celeron.

Ok, seriously, what is the big FAT difference between a Pentium 4 (2.8GHz) and a Celeron (2.4GHz, and 400 MHz difference)?!?!?!

Everyone is complaing about it so much and I have no clue as to why they hate it so much. Is it because it is 400MHz slower, or something else?

Neversky

25-09-2004 11:37:41

Not just the megahertz dude... Celerons only have 256k cache while P4's have 1 meg... Much better for multitasking...

Reasonable point, but from a business standpoint it's pretty much impossible, since they don't even break even if you get exactly 10 referrals and get the p4.

Tholek

25-09-2004 12:42:59

At which point do they make the necessary profit?

11 referrals? 12 referrals?....I might be willing to get more if they would send a P4.

[quotea698835bd0]Reasonable point, but from a business standpoint it's pretty much impossible, since they don't even break even if you get exactly 10 referrals and get the p4.[/quotea698835bd0] True, but I think that is their business model...they don't make money on the people that get the exact amount of referrals required. They only make money on those that never get to their 10 (or 5, 8...) or those that get way too many. That has always been something that worries me about all the congas. The more there are and the more efficeint they are the more Gratis has to send out goods which cuts their profits and chances at future promotions. Though honestly, most of the congas I have seen are anything but efficient, with the top few getting 40+ referrals lol.

Another idea for them to consider, letting those people that signed up before the switch get their P4's as they were told they would but require that the people help them send in the $100 rebates that go back to Gratis P.

Yeah.....funny, I seem to remember asking for an iSkin in return, but a P4 works. ;)

The HDs are 80GB and they are P4 2.8Ghz, the Dell ones at least.. that's what I see being shipped from the latest pictures from FDPC successes.

Yes but that's for the people who ordered a while ago. For people who ordered now... well... I doubt anyone has a clue what sort of PC they'll get. It would be nice if bos asks harry what their plan is regarding the Dells and how they decide what the stats of the Dells are when they order them or if harry just answers himself.
